The research was focused on the defluorination of chlorofluoroethers to corresponding esters using porous aluminum fluoride (PAF) or MFn/PAF. In the work up process, the product was easily separated from the reagent. Thus, the reaction would be a practical preparation method for polyfluorinated esters. Trifluoromethyl chlorodifluoroacetate was obtained by the reaction of 1,2-dichlorotrifluoroethyltrifluoromethyl ether with fuming sulfuric acid in 49% yield.

A porous aluminum fluoride on which SbClxF5-x (wherein x represents a numeral of 0 to 5) is supported, SbClxF5-x being obtainable by supporting SbCl, or the like on a porous aluminum fluoride and treating it with hydrogen fluoride. The resulting porous aluminum fluoride has a high activity as a fluorinating agent, a fluorination catalyst, or the like, is easy to handle, can be used for a flow-type reaction, and also can be used even at a high temperature.

Methyl dichlorofluoroacetate, easily prepared from methyl trichloroacetate and antimony(III) fluoride, underwent the reductive coupling-elimination raection with carbonyl compounds in the presence of zinc(0), a catalytic amount of copper(I) chloride, acetic anhydride, and molecular sieves to give the corresponding (Z)-α-fluoro-α,β-unsaturated carboxylic acid methyl esters in high yields.
