PHOTOELECTROCHEMICAL CHARACTERIZATION OF NOVEL RHODIUM IODIDE PHOTOCONDUCTORS.
The physical and photoelectrochemical (PEC) properties of three rhodium iodide semiconducting materials have been investigated; crystalline RhI//3, amorphous RhI//3, and a new material that may be formulated as RhI//4//. //1//-//4//. //3. Although the former two materials have been previously prepared, their semiconducting material (RhI//4//. //1//-//4//. //3) results from reacting RhBr//3 multiplied by (times) 2H//2O with triiodide ion in aqueous solutions. Its chemical and physical properties are substantially different from the known rhodium iodides (either crystalline or amorphous).
Spectroscopic evidence shows that the protonic RhI contact ion-pair, +...Rh(CO)2I2-> rather than the RhIII hydride, , is obtained by adding HI to in anhydrous solution.Similar species
