The invention further provides reporter-quencher dye pairs, wherein the asymmetric cyanine dyes are the quenchers, polynucleotides incorporating the asymmetric cyanine dyes, and nucleic acid hybridization detection methods utilizing the dye-labeled polynucleotides.
