- Heterobimetallic Pd/Mn and Pd/Co complexes as efficient and stereoselective catalysts for sequential Cu-free Sonogashira coupling–alkyne semi-hydrogenation reactions
-
A series of heterobimetallic PdII/MII complexes (MII = Mn, Co) were synthesised and tested as precatalysts for sequential Sonogashira coupling–alkyne semi-hydrogenation reactions to form Z-aryl alkenes. The carbometalated heterobimetallic PdII/CoII complex CoPdL3′ demonstrated an apparent cooperative effect compared to the corresponding monometallic counterparts. This compound was identified as a potent single-molecule catalyst for the one-pot Cu-free Sonogashira coupling of aryl bromides with terminal alkynes followed by chemo- and stereoselective semi-hydrogenation of the alkyne intermediate using NH3·BH3 as a hydrogen source. Furthermore, different aromatic substrates have been tested to show the generality of the reaction for the synthesis of Z-alkenes, including biologically active combretastatin A-4. In addition, the homogeneous nature of the catalytically active species was demonstrated.

- Pd-Catalyzed desulfitative arylation of olefins by: N -methoxysulfonamide
-
A novel Pd-catalyzed protocol for the desulfitative Heck-type reaction of N-methoxy aryl sulfonamides with alkenes was reported. The cross-coupling reaction was performed successfully with a variety of olefins to obtain aryl alkenes. Different substituents on the aromatic ring of N-methoxysulfonamides were also found to be compatible with the reaction conditions. Expectedly, the reaction proceeds through CuCl2-promoted generation of the nitrogen radical and subsequent desulfonylation under thermal conditions to afford the aryl radical for the Pd-catalyzed coupling reaction. N-Methoxysulfonamide was further exploited for the synthesis of symmetrical biaryls in the presence of CuCl2. This journal is

- Pd supported on clicked cellulose-modified magnetite-graphene oxide nanocomposite for C-C coupling reactions in deep eutectic solvent
-
Cellulose-modified magnetite-graphene oxide nanocomposite was prepared via click reaction and utilized for immobilization of palladium (Pd) nanoparticles without using additional reducing agent. The abundant OH groups of cellulose provided the uniform dispersion and high stability of Pd nanoparticles, while magnetite-graphene oxide as a supporting material offered high specific surface area and easy magnetic separation. The as-prepared nanocomposite served as a heterogeneous catalyst for the Heck and Sonogashira coupling reactions in various hydrophilic and hydrophobic deep eutectic solvents (DESs) as sustainable and environmentally benign reaction media. Among the fifteen DESs evaluated for coupling reactions, the hydrophilic DES composed of dimethyl ammonium chloride and glycerol exhibited the best results. Due to the low miscibility of catalyst and DES in organic solvents, the separated aqueous phase containing both of the catalyst and DES can be readily recovered by evaporating water and retrieved eight times with negligible loss of catalytic performance.

- A Solid-Phase Assisted Flow Approach to In Situ Wittig-Type Olefination Coupling
-
Described herein is the development of a continuous flow, solid-phase triphenylphosphine (PS-PPh3) assisted protocol to facilitate the in situ coupling of reciprocal pairs of halogen and carbonyl functionalised molecular pairs by a Wittig olefination within 15 mins. The protocol entails injecting a single solution (1 : 1 CHCl3 : EtOH) containing the halogenated and carbonyl-based substrates into a continuously flowing stream of CHCl3 : EtOH (1 : 1), passed through a fixed bed of K2CO3 and PS-PPh3. With advancement to the previous PS-PPh3 coupling procedures, the method employs a traditional polystyrene-based immobilisation matrix, the substrate scope of the protocol extended to substituted ketones, secondary alkyl chlorides, and an unprotected maleimide scaffold.

- Synthesis of new adamantyl-imine palladium(II) complexes and their application in Mizoroki-Heck and Suzuki-Miyaura C[sbnd]C cross-coupling reactions
-
Improving carbon–carbon cross-coupling reactions is an ongoing process and finding the most versatile and stable catalyst precursors has been of great interest. Ligand design has been proven to be important since it is responsible for providing electron density and steric saturation around the metal centre, thus contributing towards the stereo-electronic properties. The adamantyl moiety has been used to generate highly bulky and electron-rich ligands for application in palladium-catalysed cross-coupling reactions. Accordingly, we have prepared some Schiff-base adamantyl ligands (L1-L3) and complexed them with [PdCl2(MeCN)2] to afford the (pre)catalysts C1-C3, which were successfully applied in Mizoroki-Heck and Suzuki-Miyaura carbon–carbon cross-coupling reactions. The cross-coupling reaction products were obtained in good yields using 0.5 mol % Pd catalyst loading. C2 and C3 showed remarkable activity in the Mizoroki-Heck coupling reactions involving substrates with substituents on the olefin and aryl halide (including 4-Cl, 4-CH3, -CO2Me and -CO2Et). We also, observed that the Suzuki-Miyaura cross-coupling system was active towards challenging activated and deactivated aryl chlorides, with to up 70% conversions recorded. The mercury poisoning tests conducted revealed that the catalysts act as homogenous molecular active species in the Mizoroki-Heck reactions and act as both homogenous and heterogeneous catalysts in the Suzuki-Miyaura cross-coupling reactions.

- Dinuclear cobalt complex-catalyzed stereodivergent semireduction of alkynes: Switchable selectivities controlled by H2O
-
Catalytic semireduction of internal alkynes to alkenes is very important for organic synthesis. Although great success has been achieved in this area, switchable Z/E stereoselectivity based on a single catalyst for the semireduction of internal alkynes is a longstanding challenge due to the multichemo- and stereoselectivity, especially based on less-expensive earth-abundant metals. Herein, we describe a switchable semireduction of alkynes to (Z)- or (E)-alkenes catalyzed by a dinuclear cobalt complex supported by a macrocyclic bis pyridyl diimine (PDI) ligand. It was found that cis-reduction of the alkyne occurs first and the Z-E alkene stereoisomerization process is formally controlled by the amount of H2O, since the concentration of H2O may influence the catalytic activity of the catalyst for isomerization. Therefore, this protocol provides a facile way to switch to either the (Z)- or (E)-olefin isomer in a single transformation by adjusting the amount of water.

- PVC-NHC-Pd(0): An efficient and reusable heterogeneous catalyst for highly cis-selective semihydrogenation of alkynes using formic acid as hydrogen source
-
PVC-NHC-Pd(0) catalyst was prepared and exerted to highly cis-selective semihydrogenation of diarylacetylene using formic acid as hydrogen source under mild condition. The as-prepared catalyst was well characterized by various techniques such as FT-IR, 1H NMR, XRD, SEM, EDX, TEM, XPS, and TGA. The catalyst can be easily recovered and recycled without loss of its activity and selectivity owing to the metal-ligand interaction between Pd(0) with polymeric NHC ligands. This protocol is an attractive alternative of the classical Lindlar's hydrogenation.

- Palladium Complexes with Phenoxy- And Amidate-Functionalized N-Heterocyclic Carbene Ligands Based on 3-Phenylimidazo[1,5- a]pyridine: Synthesis and Catalytic Application in Mizoroki-Heck Coupling Reactions with Ortho-Substituted Aryl Chlorides
-
Mononuclear and tetranuclear palladium complexes with functionalized "abnormal"N-heterocyclic carbene (aNHC) ligands based on 3-phenylimidazo[1,5-a]pyridine were synthesized. All of the new complexes were structurally characterized by single-crystal X-ray diffraction studies. The new complexes were applied in the Mizoroki-Heck coupling reaction of aryl chlorides with alkenes in neat n-tetrabutylammonium bromide (TBAB). The mononuclear palladium complex with a tridentate phenoxy- and amidate-functionalized aNHC ligand displayed activity superior to that of the palladium complex with a bidentate amidate-functionalized aNHC ligand. The new tetranuclear complex with the tridentate ligand displayed the best activities, capable of the activation of deactivated aryl chlorides as substrates with a low Pd atom loading. Even challenging sterically demanding ortho-substituted aryl chlorides were successfully utilized as substrates. The studies revealed that the robustness of the catalyst precursor is crucial in delivering high catalytic activities. Also, the promising use of tetranuclear palladium complexes with functionalized aNHC ligands as the catalyst precursors in the Mizoroki-Heck coupling reaction in neat TBAB was demonstrated.

- Palladium Nanoparticles Anchored on Magnesium Organosilicate: An Effective and Selective Catalyst for the Heck Reaction
-
A new and effective palladium catalyst supported on a magnesium organosilicate for application in the Heck reaction is presented. A group of compounds comprising 22 examples were synthesized in moderate to high yields (up to 99%) within a short time. The palladium supported on magnesium organosilicate catalyst was characterized as an amorphous solid by SEM, containing around 33% of palladium inside the solid, and even with this low quantity of palladium, the catalyst was very efficient in the Heck reaction. Besides, based on the Scherrer equation, the crystallite size of the synthesized palladium nanoparticles was ultrasmall (around 1.3 nm). This strategy is a simple and efficient route for the formation of C-C bonds via the Heck cross-coupling reaction.

- Valorisation of urban waste to access low-cost heterogeneous palladium catalysts for cross-coupling reactions in biomass-derived γ-valerolactone
-
Herein we report a simple protocol for the valorisation of a common urban biowaste. The lignocellulosic biomass obtained after the pre-treatment of pine needle urban waste is efficiently transformed into a low-cost support (PiNe) for the immobilization of Pd nanoparticles. The final Pd/PiNe heterogeneous catalyst features a small particle size (4.5 nm) and a metal loading (9.9 wt%) comparable with most commercially available and generally used counterparts. In this contribution, we tested the catalytic efficiency of the Pd/PiNe system in two representative cross-couplings, Heck and Hiyama reactions, and compared the results obtained with commercial Pd/C catalyst. The good reactivity in the biomass-derived solvent (GVL) confirms that the Pd/PiNe heterogeneous catalyst is a valid system that can be integrated into a waste valorization chain within a circular economy approach. In addition, the efficiency of the catalyst has also been extended to perform the challenging consecutive Hiyama-Heck reaction to afford differently substituted (E)-1,2-diarylethenes.

An eco-friendly green method for a one-step synthesis of palladium nanoparticles and their synthetic utility are reported. Phytochemicals like amines, alcohols, and phenols present in the Areca Nut Husk extract facilitate the reduction of Pd(ii) to Pd(0). The phytochemicals serve as stabilising agents and ligands for palladium reduction and the need for an external ligand is avoided. The Field Emission Scanning Electron Microscopy and Transmission Electron Microscopy of newly synthesized palladium nanoparticles revealed a spherical morphology. The catalytic activity of the nanoparticles was tested for 1,2-difunctionalization of ynamides, Heck coupling, denitrogenative coupling of phenylhydrazine and C-H arylation of indole. Moreover, catalyst recyclability, control experiments, mechanistic elucidation, and gram-scale synthesis are elaborated.

- Electro-mediated PhotoRedox Catalysis for Selective C(sp3)–O Cleavages of Phosphinated Alcohols to Carbanions
-
We report a novel example of electro-mediated photoredox catalysis (e-PRC) in the reductive cleavage of C(sp3)?O bonds of phosphinated alcohols to alkyl carbanions. As well as deoxygenations, olefinations are reported which are E-selective and can be made Z-selective in a tandem reduction/photosensitization process where both steps are photoelectrochemically promoted. Spectroscopy, computation, and catalyst structural variations reveal that our new naphthalene monoimide-type catalyst allows for an intimate dispersive precomplexation of its radical anion form with the phosphinate substrate, facilitating a reactivity-determining C(sp3)?O cleavage. Surprisingly and in contrast to previously reported photoexcited radical anion chemistries, our conditions tolerate aryl chlorides/bromides and do not give rise to Birch-type reductions.

- Energy-Transfer-Mediated Photocatalysis by a Bioinspired Organic Perylenephotosensitizer HiBRCP
-
Energy transfer plays a special role in photocatalysis by utilizing the potential energy of the excited state through indirect excitation, in which a photosensitizer determines the thermodynamic feasibility of the reaction. Bioinspired by the energy-transfer ability of natural product cercosporin, here we developed a green and highly efficient organic photosensitizer HiBRCP (hexaisobutyryl reduced cercosporin) through structural modification of cercosporin. After structural manipulation, its triplet energy was greatly improved, and then, it could markedly promote the efficient geometrical isomerization of alkenes from the E-isomer to the Z-isomer. Moreover, it was also effective for energy-transfer-mediated organometallic catalysis, which allowed realization of the cross-coupling of aryl bromides and carboxylic acids through efficient energy transfer from HiBRCP to nickel complexes. Thus, the study on the relationship between structural manipulation and their photophysical properties provided guidance for further modification of cercosporin, which could be applied to more meaningful and challenging energy-transfer reactions.

- Copper(0) nanoparticle catalyzed Z-Selective Transfer Semihydrogenation of Internal Alkynes
-
The use of copper(0) nanoparticles in the transfer semihydrogenation of alkynes has been investigated as a lead-free alternative to Lindlar catalysts. A stereo-selective methodology for the hydrogenation of internal alkynes to the corresponding (Z)-alkenes in high isolated yields (86% average) has been developed. This green and sustainable transfer hydrogenation protocol relies on non-noble copper nanoparticles for reduction of both electron-rich and electron-deficient, aliphatic-substituted and aromatic- substituted internal alkynes. Polyols, such as ethylene glycol and glycerol, have been proven to act as hydrogen sources, and excellent stereo- and chemoselectivity have been observed. Enabling technologies, such as microwave and ultrasound irradiation are shown to enhance heat and mass transfer, whether used alone or in combination, resulting in a decrease in reaction time from hours to minutes. - Mizoroki-Heck Reaction of Unstrained Aryl Ketones via Ligand-Promoted C-C Bond Olefination

Mizoroki-Heck reaction of unstrained aryl ketone with acrylate/styrene is accomplished via palladium-catalyzed ligand-promoted C-C bond cleavage. Various (hetero)aryl ketones are compatible in the reaction, affording the alkene product in good to excellent yields. Further applications in the late-stage olefination of some drugs, natural products, and fragrance-derived aryl ketones demonstrate the synthetic utility of this protocol. By employing ketone as both the directing group and the leaving group, 1,2-bifunctionalization is achieved via sequential ortho-C-H alkylation/ipso-Heck olefination.

- A photocatalyst-free visible-light-mediated solvent-switchable route to stilbenes/vinyl sulfones from β-nitrostyrenes and arylazo sulfones
-
Photocatalyst-free visible-light-mediated reactions, based on the presence of a visible-light-absorbing functional group in the starting material itself in order to exclude the often costly, hazardous, degradable and difficult to remove or recover photoredox catalysts, have been gaining momentum recently. We have employed this approach to develop a denitrative photocatalyst-free visible-light-mediated protocol for the arylation/sulfonylation of β-nitrostyrenes employing arylazo sulfones (bench-stable photolabile compounds) in a switchable solvent-controlled manner. Arylazo sulfones served as the aryl and sulfonyl radical precursors under blue LED irradiation for the synthesis oftrans-stilbenes and (E)-vinyl sulfones in CH3CN and dioxane/H2O 2?:?1, respectively. The absence of any metal, photocatalyst and additive; excellent selectivity (E-stereochemistry) and solvent-switchability; and the use of visible light and ambient temperature are the prime assets of the developed method. Moreover, we report the first photocatalyst-free visible light-driven route to synthesize stilbenes and vinyl sulfones from readily available β-nitrostyrenes.

Here we report Z-selective semihydrogenation of alkynes with ethanol via a coordination-induced ionic monohydride mechanism. The EtOH-coordination-driven Cl- dissociation in a pincer Ir(III) hydridochloride complex (NCP)IrHCl (1) forms a cationic monohydride, [(NCP)IrH(EtOH)]+Cl-, that reacts selectively with alkynes over the corresponding Z-alkenes, thereby overcoming competing thermodynamically dominant alkene Z-E isomerization and overreduction. The challenge for establishing a catalytic cycle, however, lies in the alcoholysis step; the reaction of the alkyne insertion product (NCP)IrCl(vinyl) with EtOH does occur, but very slowly. Surprisingly, the alcoholysis does not proceed via direct protonolysis of the Ir-C(vinyl) bond. Instead, mechanistic data are consistent with an anion-involved alcoholysis pathway involving ionization of (NCP)IrCl(vinyl) via EtOH-for-Cl substitution and reversible protonation of Cl- ion with an Ir(III)-bound EtOH, followed by β-H elimination of the ethoxy ligand and C(vinyl)-H reductive elimination. The use of an amine is key to the monohydride mechanism by promoting the alcoholysis. The 1-amine-EtOH catalytic system exhibits an unprecedented level of substrate scope, generality, and compatibility, as demonstrated by Z-selective reduction of all alkyne classes, including challenging enynes and complex polyfunctionalized molecules. Comparison with a cationic monohydride complex bearing a noncoordinating BArF- ion elucidates the beneficial role of the Cl- ion in controlling the stereoselectivity, and comparison between 1-amine-EtOH and 1-NaOtBu-EtOH underscores the fact that this base variable, albeit in catalytic amounts, leads to different mechanisms and consequently different stereoselectivity.

- A simple and efficientin situgenerated copper nanocatalyst for stereoselective semihydrogenation of alkynes
-
Development of a simple, effective, and practical method for (Z)-selective semihydrogenation of alkynes has been considered necessary for easy-to-access applications at organic laboratory scales. Herein, (Z)-selective semihydrogenation of alkynes was achieved using a copper nanocatalyst which was generatedin situsimply by adding ammonia borane to an ethanol solution of copper sulfate. Different types of alkynes including aryl-aryl, aryl-alkyl, and aliphatic alkynes were selectively reduced to (Z)-alkenes affording up to 99% isolated yield. The semihydrogenation of terminal alkynes to alkenes and gram-scale applications were also reported. In addition to eliminating catalyst preparation, the proposed approach is simple and practical and serves as a suitable alternative method to the conventional Lindlar catalyst.

- Ligand-free (: Z)-selective transfer semihydrogenation of alkynes catalyzed by in situ generated oxidizable copper nanoparticles
-
Herein, we present (Z)-selective transfer semihydrogenation of alkynes based on in situ generated CuNPs in the presence of hydrogen donors, such as ammonia-borane and a green protic solvent. This environmentally friendly method is characterized by operational simplicity combined with high stereo- and chemoselectivity and functional group compatibility. Auto-oxidation of CuNPs after the completion of a semihydrogenation reaction results in the formation of a water-soluble ammonia complex, so that the catalyst may be reused several times by simple phase-separation with no need for any special regeneration processes. Formed NH4B(OR)4 can be easily transformed back into ammonia-borane or into boric acid. In addition, a one-pot tandem sequence involving a Suzuki reaction followed by semihydrogenation was presented, which allows minimization of chemical waste production.

- Palladium nanoparticlesin situsynthesized onCyclea barbatapectin as a heterogeneous catalyst for Heck coupling in water, the reduction of nitrophenols and alkynes
-
This study develops an effective method for thein situsynthesis of palladium nanoparticles (PdNPs) usingCyclea barbatapectin as a green reducing and stabilizing reagent. The PdNP@pectin nanocomposite was well characterized by analysis techniques such as UV-vis, FTIR, EDX, XRD, SEM, HR-TEM and STEM-mapping. Crystalline PdNPs were found to be distributed in the size range of 1-25 nm with the highest frequency of 6-12 nm. PdNP@pectin exhibited excellent recyclable catalysis activity for the Heck coupling reaction in water medium. The kinetics and recyclability of nanoparticles were investigated for the catalytic reduction ofo-,m- andp-nitrophenol. The result showed a good catalysis efficiency with five successful recycles without compromising much. In particular, the nanocomposite was used as a catalyst for the conversion of alkynes intocis-alkenes with KOH/DMF as a hydrogenation source. The reaction was also utilized effectively for the synthesis of sex pheromones, includingPlutella xylostella((Z)-11-hexadecen-1-yl acetate) andCylas formicarius((Z)-3-dodecen-1-yl(E)-2-butenoate) with the total yields of 70% and 68%, respectively. Therefore, PdNPs supported onC. barbatapectin are promising catalysis materials for application in various fields.

- Efficient photocatalytic chemoselective and stereoselective C-C bond formation over AuPd@N-rich carbon nitride
-
Heterogeneous chemoselective or stereoselective C-C coupling reactions remain extremely challenging in traditional organic synthesis. Here, we constructed a AuPd@N-rich carbon nitride (NRCN) photocatalyst through simple ammonia solution heat treatment of carbon nitride and then AuPd NP loading. AuPd@NRCN exhibited extraordinary light color promoted catalytic performance in C-C bond formation under visible light in air. Surprisingly, both high chemoselectivity to unsymmetrical Ullmann biaryl products and satisfactory stereoselectivity to Z-type Heck reaction products could be achieved by changing the light source color. Various substrates exhibited great potential for the economical synthesis of unsymmetrical biaryl products and Z-type olefins. Efficient visible light promoted C-I bond activation accompanied with improved photocatalytic coupling reaction efficiency over AuPd@NRCN was verified firstly by in situ DRIFTS. Considering that the Ullmann cross-coupling reaction is a multi-photon reaction, the improved photocatalytic performance in the Ullmann cross-coupling reaction using a combination of light sources with different colors might be due to the activation of different substrates and/or steps requiring different energies, and the combination of the two energy sources was beneficial for improving the activation efficiency of different substrates and/or steps. The activation of iodobenzene and styrene in the Heck reaction with light was also beneficial to the formation of the stilbene product. The light color promoted chemoselectivity and stereoselectivity are expected to have profound impact on organic synthetic methodology improvement. This journal is

- Catalytic and antibacterial properties of 3-dentate carboxamide Pd/Pt complexes obtained via a benign route
-
The complexes PdII(qcq)(OAc) and PtII(qcq)Cl have been synthesized using environmentally benign synthesized ligands and characterized by elemental analyses: Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, UV–visible spectroscopy, 1H NMR spectroscopy, and X-ray diffraction. The catalytic activity of the complex was assessed, in different media, for the Mizoroki–Heck coupling reaction for typical aryl halides and terminal olefins under aerobic conditions. Since the base and the solvent were found to influence the efficiency of the reaction, reaction conditions, temperature, time, and the amount of K3PO4 and a mixture of H2O/PEG, were optimized. We found, for the Mizoroki–Heck reaction coupling less reactive aryl chloride derivatives with olefins, promising activity for palladium catalysts. The electrochemical behavior of Hqcq and the Pd(II) complex was investigated by cyclic voltammetry and irreversible PdII/I reductions were observed. Hqcq and the Pd(II) and Pt(II) complexes were also screened for their in vitro antibacterial activity. They showed promising antibacterial activity comparable to that of the antibiotic penicillin.

- Synthesis of glucoside-based imidazolium salts for Pd-catalyzed cross-coupling reaction in water
-
Sugar-based imidazolium salts (IMSs) represent an outstanding type of material making them eye-catching for a wide variety of applications. Herein, a series of glucoside-based IMSs (Glu-IMSs) combining glucoside and imidazolium head groups with different substituents were synthesized. The catalytic activities of these Glu-IMSs were evaluated by Pd-catalyzed Heck–Mizoroki and Suzuki–Miyaura reactions in water. Among them, the Glu-IMSs contain both –OH and NHCs coordination sites was found to be the most efficient ancillary ligand in comparison with other Glu-IMSs with just single NHCs coordination site. The HR-TEM analysis showed that the palladium nanoparticles stabilized by the Glu-IMSs with an average size of ~4.0 nm was formed in the reaction system, which may be act as an efficient real catalytic species. Under the optimized reaction conditions, a series of novel fluorine-cored organic small molecule functional materials were synthesized with favorable yields.

- Palladium Nanoparticles Immobilized with Polymer Containing Nitrogen-Based Ligand: A Highly Efficient Catalyst for Suzuki–Miyaura and Mizoroki–Heck Coupling Reactions
-
Abstract: An outstanding heterogeneous catalyst was successfully prepared by immobilization of palladium nanoparticles (Pd NPs) with polymer containing 4′‐(4‐hydroxyphenyl)‐2,2′:6′,2″‐terpyridine (HPTPy) ligand. The polymer cross‐linked with trimethylolpropane triacrylate (TMPTA) units was synthesized by polymerization of itaconic acid-HPTPy (ITC-HPTPy) monomer (so-called cross‐linked poly (ITC- HPTPy)). The cross‐linked poly (ITC-HPTPy) can stabilize the Pd NPs effectively against aggregation, thereby improving the catalytic efficiency of Pd NPs. The presence of Pd NPs on the polymer was confirmed by various physicochemical techniques. The resulting cross‐linked poly (ITC-HPTPy)-Pd was applied as a highly effective recyclable catalyst in Suzuki–Miyaura and Mizoroki–Heck coupling reactions under low Pd-loading conditions and straightforward methods, and provided the corresponding products with excellent yields (up to 98%), high catalytic activities (TOF up to 213?h?1). The catalyst can be separated from the reaction mixture by centrifugation and can be reused consecutive six times with slight reduction in catalytic activity. Graphic Abstract: Pd NPs immobilized with polymer containing terpyridine ligand are highly active heterogeneous catalysts for Suzuki–Miyaura and Mizoroki–Heck coupling reactions.[Figure not available: see fulltext.].

- Ultrafine Pd nanoparticles loaded benzothiazole-linked covalent organic framework for efficient photocatalytic C-C cross-coupling reactions
-
We proposed a strategy that a benzothiazole-linked covalent organic framework (TTT-COF) was used as a substrate to prepare metal composite photocatalyst Pd NPs?TTT-COF. Firstly, benzothiazole linked TTT-COF exhibited superior chemical stability and photoresponse. Moreover, a finer particle size (2.01 nm) and more uniform distribution of Pd NPs were observed in Pd NPs?TTT-COF owing to the binding interaction between Pd NPs and S in benzothiazole groups. Pd NPs?TTT-COF exhibited superior efficiency and reusability in photocatalytic C-C cross-coupling reactions. Mechanism study suggested that photogenerated electrons and holes on TTT-COF played important roles in these reactions. This journal is

- Fabrication of Ni3N nanorods anchored on N-doped carbon for selective semi-hydrogenation of alkynes
-
Nickel is a highly active catalyst for the semi-hydrogenation of alkynes. However, the low selectivity of the alkene product caused by the over-hydrogenation reaction on Ni has hindered its practical applications. In this work, we report a new nickel nitride (Ni3N)-catalyzed semi-hydrogenation of alkynes to the corresponding alkenes. The Ni3N nanorods were facilely fabricated via a direct pyrolysis of the solid mixture of nickel acetate tetrahydrate and melamine (Mlm). The Ni3N phase in the optimum catalyst (Ni3N/NC-6/5-550) is shown to be effective and stable in the semi-hydrogenation of alkynes, with a high yield and good selectivity for alkenes (Z/E ratios up to >99/1). Both terminal and internal alkynes bearing a broad scope of functional groups are readily converted into alkenes with good chemo- and stereoselectivity. Notably, it was found that the over-hydrogenation can be markedly suppressed even at high conversion of alkyne. Density functional theory (DFT) calculations reveal that the low interaction between the alkene product and the Ni3N might plays a critical role in the selectivity enhancement.

- cis-Selective Transfer Semihydrogenation of Alkynes by Merging Visible-Light Catalysis with Cobalt Catalysis
-
Herein, the first example of visible-light-driven, cobalt-catalyzed transfer semihydrogenation of alkynes to alkenes is reported. It is carried out by using Ir[dF(CF3)ppy]2(dtbbpy)]PF6 as photosensitizer, CoBr2/n-Bu3P as proton-reducing catalyst, and i-Pr2NEt/AcOH as the hydrogen source. Under the established catalytic system, the semihydrogenation proceeds with Z as the major selectivity and with inhibition of over-reduction. Under mild reaction conditions, both internal and terminal alkynes, as well as reducible functional groups such as halogen, cyano, and ester, are tolerated. Preliminary mechanistic studies revealed the dual role of the photosensitizer in initiating the reaction via a single-electron transfer process and controlling the stereoselectivity via an energy transfer process. - E, Z -Selectivity in the reductive cross-coupling of two benzaldehydes to stilbenes under substrate control
-
Unsymmetrical E- and Z-stilbenes can be synthesized from two differently substituted benzaldehydes in a MesP(TMS)Li-promoted reductive coupling sequence. Depending on the order of addition of the two coupling partners, the same olefin can be produced in either E- or Z-enriched form under identical reaction conditions. A systematic study of the correlation between the stereochemical outcome of the reaction and the substitution pattern at the two aldehydes is presented. The results can be used as guidelines to predict the product stereochemistry. This journal is

- Synthesis of Stilbenes by Rhodium-Catalyzed Aerobic Alkenylation of Arenes via C-H Activation
-
Arene alkenylation is commonly achieved by late transition metal-mediated C(sp2)-C(sp2) cross-coupling, but this strategy typically requires prefunctionalized substrates (e.g., with halides or pseudohalides) and/or the presence of a directing group on the arene. Transition metal-mediated arene C-H activation and alkenylation offers an alternative method to functionalize arene substrates. Herein, we report a rhodium-catalyzed oxidative arene alkenylation from arenes and styrenes to prepare stilbene and stilbene derivatives. The reaction is successful with several functional groups on both the arene and the olefin including fluoride, chloride, trifluoromethyl, ester, nitro, acetate, cyanide, and ether groups. Reactions of monosubstituted arenes are selective for alkenylation at the meta and para positions, generally with approximately 2:1 selectivity, respectively. Resveratrol and (E)-1,2,3-trimethoxy-5-(4-methoxystyryl)benzene (DMU-212) are synthesized by this single-step approach in high yield. Comparison with palladium catalysis showed that rhodium catalysis is more selective for meta-functionalization for monosubstituted arenes and that the Rh catalysis has better tolerance of halogen groups.

- Exploring Homogeneous Conditions for Mild Buchwald-Hartwig Amination in Batch and Flow
-
Cross-couplings are among the most frequently used reactions in complex molecule synthesis. However, the requirement of stoichiometric base can cause challenges. Harsh, insoluble inorganic bases can lead to poor tolerance of sensitive functional groups, scale-up issues, and difficult adaptation to continuous flow platforms. Herein, we describe the use of high throughput experimentation to identify a number of conditions that enable Buchwald-Hartwig reactions to be carried out using readily available ligands (e.g., XantPhos) with DBU as a soluble, functional-group-tolerant, homogeneous base. Application of this system to diverse aminations in batch and flow are demonstrated, as is the translation of this technique to performing continuous Mizoroki-Heck and Sonogashira coupling reactions.

- Amidoxime modified PAN supported palladium complex: A greener and efficient heterogeneous catalyst for heck reaction
-
Development of a facile and greener approach for Heck reaction using a modified PAN supported palladium catalyst is described. The preparation of the catalyst involves a simple process through amidoxime modification of nitrile group in Polyacrylonitrile (PAN), followed by the complexation with Palladium chloride (PdCl2). The resulting supported catalyst was characterized by spectroscopic analyses and further by computational studies. This polymer supported Palladium complex displayed excellent catalytic activity in Heck coupling reaction of a series of activated alkenes and aryl halides and afforded the corresponding coupling products upto 96% isolated yield. After the reaction, the catalyst was easily recovered by simple filtration and recycled with excellent stability and activity even after 5 runs. This is the first report on the use of amidoxime functionalized PAN- Palladium (II) complex as a heterogeneous catalyst in Heck coupling reaction.
