Alternate Self-Regeneration of Stereocenters: Enantioselective Generation of a C2-Symmetric Chiral Nitroxide and Its Reduction to the Corresponding, Highly Sterically Hindered Amine
Synthesis, resolution and crystal structure of a new optically active nitroxide radical
The synthesis of the readily available racemate of the nitroxide radical 5 is described. The product exhibits exclusively the irons configuration. The cis product was not obtained. Optically pure enantiomers of 5 were isolated in gram quantities by chiral HPLC. Thus, separation of the enantiomers of a nitroxide radical was achieved for the first time. The structure of 5 was proven by a single-crystal diffraction study. VCH Verlagsgesellschaft mbH, 1996.
