- PREPARATION OF SELECTED FLUOROOLEFINS
-
A process is disclosed for producing (CF3)2C=CH2, CF3CH=CF2, CF2=C(CF3)OCF2CHF2 and C6H5C(CF3)=CF2. The process involves contacting the corresponding fluorocarbon starting material selected from (CF3)2CFCH2F, (CF3)2CHF, (CF3)2CFOCF2CHF2 and C6H5CF(CF3)2, in the vapor phase, with a defluorination reagent selected from carbon, copper, iron, nickel and zinc at an elevated temperature of at least 300 DEG C.

- SOLVENT EFFECTS IN BETWEEN PERFLUOROALKYLIODIDES AND CADMIUM
-
The interaction between perfluoroorgano iodides (RfI where Rf = F(CF3)2C(CF2CF2)3, n-C6F13, n-C8F17, F(CF3)2COCF2CF2, F(CF3)2CO(CF2CF2)4 and C2H5OC(O)(CF2CF2)2OCF2CF2) with cadmium in an acetonitrile solvent media produces primarily the coupled products (RfRf, 72-90percent yield) in addition to minor quantities of the reduction products (RfH).On the other hand ICF2CF2I and ClCF2CFClI, by a 1,2-dehalogenation reaction, from the olefins CF2=CF2 and CF2=CFCl, respectively, as the principal products. The interaction of RfI compounds with cadmium in other solvent media, e.g. diethyl ether, tetrahydrofuran (YHF)), N,N-dimethylformamide (DMF), and bis(2-methoxyethyl)ether(diglyme) were examined and found to produce a different ratio of RfRf and RfH products.

- SYNTHESIS AND REACTIONS OF SOME PERFLUOROALKYL ETHER SUBSTITUTED SILANES
-
Perfluoroalkyl ether substituted silicon compounds of the type (CH3)nSi(RfORf)4-n (n=1-3) and HSi(RfORf)3 where RfORf=F(CF3)2COCF2CF2have been synthesized in good yields (64-81percent) through the reaction between the organolithium reagent RfORfLi and the corresponding silicon chloride. The stability of these compounds towards acid, base and aqueous media were studied and the ease of cleavage of the Si-RfORf bond was found to be in the order HSi(RfORf)3>CH3Si(RfORf)3>(CH3)2Si(RfORf)2>(CH3)3SiRfORf.The influence of the RfORf group on some properties of these compounds is also described.
