- REACTIONS OF BETAINE ESTERS WITH HYDROXIDE ION IN REACTIVE AND UNREACTIVE COUNTERION SURFACTANT
-
The reaction of hydroxide ion with methyl N-alkyl-N,N-dimethylglycinate (1) is catalysed by cationic micelles. The variation of the first-order constant, kψ, with the concentration of CTACl can be fitted to the pseudophase ion-exchange model, but this model fails when the counterion of the surfactant is OH(1-).The variations of kψ with counterion of CTAOH fit a kinetic model in which the distribution of the OH(1-) between the aqueous and micellar pseudophase depends upon .The value for the second-order rate constant in the micellar pseudophase predicted by both models is similar and it is smaller than the second-order rate constants in water.

- Carboxy and carboxy-glycol ether and ester functional siloxane containing hair conditioners and shampoos
-
A hair conditioning composition being a mixture including water, a thickener, and an organosilicon compound is disclosed. Also disclosed is a hair shampoo conditioning composition in the form of a mixture including water, at least one surfactant, a thickener, and an organosilicon conditioning compound. In both compositions, the organosilicon compound is a siloxane selected from the group consisting of carboxy functional polysiloxanes, carboxy-glycol ether functional polysiloxanes, and carboxy-glycol ester functional polysiloxanes. These compositions may also include dyes, neutralizing agents, or reducing agents, if desired.

- The Effects of Zwitterionic Surfactant Systems upon Aromatic Nucleophilic Substitution
-
Reactions of OH(-) with 4-chloro-3,5-dinitrobenzoic acid (1) and 2-chloro-3,5-dinitrobenzoic acid (2) have been examined in solutions of N,N-dimethyl-N-tetradecylglycine (DTG) and N,N-dimethyl-N-hexadecylglycine (DHG).DTG and DHG ihibit hydroxydehalogenation of (1) and kinetic profiles for this reaction tend towards a plateau which assumes different values depending on the pH; hence the inhibition does not stop the reaction.Reactions of (2) with OH(-) in the presence of DTG and DHG exhibit a 'non-effect'.The important factor underlying this difference of behaviour between (1) and (2) in the presence of zwitterionic surfactants is probably the orientation of the substrates within the microaggregates.

- Conditioning shampoo containing amine functional polydiorganosiloxane
-
A conditioning shampoo composition is disclosed containing a nonionic surfactant of the alkanolamide or amine oxide type, an amine functional methylsiloxane polymer, a detersive surfactant of the anionic or amphoteric type, and water. A method of preparing the shampoo composition as a stable solution is also disclosed. During use, the shampoo composition simultaneously cleanses the hair and deposits the siloxane polymer conditioning component on the hair.
