The present invention is directed to piperidine oxadiazole and thiadiazole orexin compounds which are antagonists of orexin receptors. The present invention is also directed to uses of the compounds described herein in the potential treatment or prevention of neurological and psychiatric disorders and diseases in which orexin receptors are involved. Process for the preparation of Flecainide, its pharmaceutically acceptable salts and important intermediates thereof that involves the use of the 2-halobenzoic acid and its derivatives as a starting material. The use of this process also allows for the synthesis of a novel intermediate useful in the production of Flecainide. This new process is an inexpensive and efficient process for the manufacture of these compounds.
