- Nucleophilic substitution reactions of o-catechols with iridium(III) carbonyl complexes: Novel series of functionalized Ir(III) complexes
-
Complexes of Ir(CO)X2Y(PPh3)2: X = Y = I, Cl; X = I, Y = Cl; and [Ir(CO)(CH3)I(CH3CN)(PPh3)2]+ undergo nucleophilic substitutions with o-catechols, yielding a variety of carbonyl-Ir(III)-o-catecholato species. Following a preliminary investigation using tetrabromopyrocatechol and pryocatechol as the reacting ligands, a new series of carbonyl-Ir(III)-(amine- and carboxyl-substituted)-o-catecholates of the type [Ir(CO)X(1,2-O2C6H3-4-R)(PPh3)2]; R = CH2CH2NH2 X = I, CH3; R = CO2H, X = CH3; R = CH2CH2CO2H, X = I have been prepared and characterized by elemental analysis, and IR and NMR spectra. The stability of the complexes and the anchoring potentiality of the functionalized derivatives toward a variety of complementary functionalized organic species have been investigated by preparing amide-substituted-o-catecholato species.
