A comparison of the solid state structures of the selenium(IV) compounds PhSeX3 (X = Cl, Br)
Solid state structures of selenium(IV) compounds PhSeX3 (X=Cl, Br) were compared. Crystals of PhSeX3 (X=Cl, Br) were produced by recrystallization from refluxing diethyl ether. The structure of PhSeCl 3 showed polymeric ch

REACTION OF THIOLO AND SELENO ESTERS OF PHOSPHORUS ACIDS WITH HALOGENS. 4. HALOGENOLYSIS OF O,O-DINEOPENTYL Se-METHYL (PHENYL) PHOSPHOROSELENOATES
It has been demonstrated that the reaction of the title phosphoroselenoates with halogens and sulphuryl chloride occurs more readily than that of sulphur analogues. The participation of diphosphorus intermediates, (NeoO)2P+(SeR)OP(O)(ONeo)2X- has been shown. It was found, that the increased leaving ability of -SeR group strongly influences the decomposition pathways of the latter compounds, leading to the different compositions of the final reaction products from those observed previously for the same reactions of analogues thiolo esters.Key words: Phosphoroselenoates; halogens; sulphuryl chloride; halogenolysis; phosphorohalogenates; phosphoryloxyphosphonium salts.

REACTIVITY OF α-ARYLSELENO-ALDEHYDES TOWARDS HALOGENS AND BENZENESELENENYL CHLORIDE
Chlorination of α-seleno-aldehydes bearing an α-hydrogen gives selenium dichlorides which decompose into α-chloro α-seleno-aldehydes and α-chloroenal.Bromination, in all cases, and chlorination for the other α-seleno-aldehydes lead to the α-halogenoaldehydes.
