- A new oxygen-rich energetic salt dihydrazine tetranitroethide: A promising explosive alternative with high density and good performance
-
A novel high-energy salt with good oxygen balance, dihydrazine tetranitroethide (5), has been synthesized and characterized by FT-IR spectroscopy, NMR spectroscopy, elemental analysis, and X-ray single crystal diffraction. Compound 5 exhibits high crystal density (1.81 g cm-3) and impressive detonation velocity (9508 m s-1) and detonation pressure (37.9 GPa), showing potential applications as a high performance explosive and a promising additive of propellants.

- Taming of tetranitroethane: A promising precursor for high performance energetic ingredients
-
The stabilization of nitrogen-rich or oxygen-rich energetic molecules is an ongoing challenging study in the field of energetic materials. Now we describe the stabilization of tetranitroethane by various transformations to metal complexes, nitrogen rich salts, and ionic complexes with ammonium oxide. These newly prepared energetic compounds are characterized by IR and NMR spectroscopy, elemental analysis, and differential scanning calorimetry (DSC). Single-crystal X-ray diffraction analysis was used to obtain further structural confirmation of 10, 11, 12, and 14. The safety parameters associated with impact and friction sensitivities were investigated using BAM (Bundesanstalt für Materialforschung und-prüfung) methods. In addition, detonation performances, e.g., detonation velocity, detonation pressure, and specific impulse, were calculated using the Explo5 program (version 6.01), which gives rise to a significant assessment of the application potential of tetranitroethane derivatives as high performance energetic ingredients.

- Chemical transformations of the dianions of tetranitroethane and 1,1,4,4-tetranitro-2,3-butanediol
-
Some electrophilic reactions of the dianions of tetranitroethane and 1,1,4,4-tetranitro-2,3-butanediol, possible precursors of highly nitrated tetranitroethylene and 1,1,4,4-tetranitrobutadiene, were studied. In the obtained products in the presence of bases the C-C bonds readily undergo cleavage with the formation of stable C(NO2)2X anions and their transformation products.
