- Reactivity of alkali and alkaline earth metal tetrafluorobromates towards aromatic compounds and pyridine

The bromination activity of tetrafluorobromates of alkali and alkali-earth metals increases in the order KBrF4, CsBrF4, RbBrF4and Ba(BrF4)2. The most active tetrafluorobromate—Ba(BrF4)2is able to selectively brominate the deactivated aromatic compounds nitrobenzene and 4-nitrotoluene, but not the activated compounds benzene and toluene. In all cases bromination of methyl groups of methylbenzenes does not occur. Ba(BrF4)2forms the known complex C6H5N·BrF3when reacted with pyridine. Due to dilution by inert BaF2, this pyridine-based complex is air stable and can be considered as safer and more convenient reagent in comparison with the original fluorobromates; it can selectively brominate benzene and toluene in contrast with tetrafluorobromates.

1-Fluoropentahelicene and substituted derivatives have been synthesized by the photocyclodehydrogenation of 1,2-di(2-naphtyl) ethylenes (1) and 3-styrylphenanthrenes (2).In two cases (1a and 2d) the photocyclisations gave rise to benzo perylenes (7, 8, 23, 24) a reaction involving either the loss (8, 24) or the fluorine atom.The 1H-NMR spectra are described.

This invention relates to novel 4-phenylcyclohexylamines embraced by the formula SPC1 Wherein ? is a generic expression denoting cis and trans stereoconfiguration and mixtures thereof; R is selected from the group consisting of alkyl of from one through four carbon atoms, fluorine, chlorine, bromine, trifluoromethyl, nitro and alkoxy of from one through four carbon atoms; R' and R1 are selected from the group consisting of hydrogen and alkyl of from one through four carbon atoms; R2 is selected from the group consisting of hydrogen, alkyl of from one through four carbon atoms, alkanoyl of from one through three carbon atoms, alkylsulfonyl of from one through three carbon atoms, arylsulfonyl of from six through ten carbon atoms, alkylcarbamoyl wherein alkyl is from one through four carbon atoms, alkoxycarbonyl wherein alkyl is from one through four carbon atoms, ring monosubstituted aroylalkyl wherein the substituents have the same meaning as R, above, aryl is from six through ten carbon atoms and alkyl is from one through six carbon atoms and bis (ring monosubstituted) arylalkyl wherein the substituents have the same meaning as R, above, aryl is from six through ten carbon atoms and alkyl is from one through six carbon atoms; R1 and R2 when taken together with --N is a saturated heterocyclic amino radical selected from the group consisting of unsubstituted and monosubstituted pyrrolidino, piperidino, hexamethylenimino, morpholino and piperazino; and an acid addition salt thereof.
