- A re-investigation of the oxidation of 28-lupanol and 24-nor-28-lupanol with lead tetraacetate

Two new by-products, 17β-acetoxy-28-norlupane 6a and 17β-acetoxy-24,28-dinorlupane 6b have been identified from the oxidation of 28-lupanol 1a and 24-nor-28-lupanol 1b with lead tetraacetate, respectively. Pyrolysis of 6a or 6b at 225°C provides a mixture of 28-norlup-16-ene 2a (69%), 28-norlup-17-ene 4a (9%) and 28-norlup-17(22)-ene 3a (22%) or 24,28-dinorlup-16-ene 2b (70%), 24,28-dinorlup-17-ene 4b (8%) and 24,28-dinorlup-17(22)-ene 3b (22%).
