- Nickel-Catalyzed Amination of Aryl Chlorides with Amides
-
A nickel-catalyzed amination of aryl chlorides with diverse amides via C-N bond cleavage has been realized under mild conditions. A broad substrate scope with excellent functional group tolerance at a low catalyst loading makes the protocol powerful for synthesizing various aromatic amines. The aryl chlorides could selectively couple to the amino fragments rather than the carbonyl moieties of amides. Our protocol complements the conventional amination of aryl chlorides and expands the usage of inactive amides.

- Functionalization of superparamagnetic Fe3O4@SiO2 nanoparticles with a Cu(II) binuclear Schiff base complex as an efficient and reusable nanomagnetic catalyst for N-arylation of α-amino acids and nitrogen-containing heterocycles with aryl halides
-
Fe3O4@SiO2 nanoparticles was functionalized with a binuclear Schiff base Cu(II)-complex (Fe3O4@SiO2/Schiff base-Cu(II) NPs) and used as an effective magnetic hetereogeneous nanocatalyst for the N-arylation of α-amino acids and nitrogen-containig heterocycles. The catalyst, Fe3O4@SiO2/Schiff base-Cu(II) NPs, was characterized by Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) and ultraviolet-visible (UV-vis) analyses step by step. Size, morphology, and size distribution of the nanocatalyst were studied by transmission electron microscopy (TEM), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), and dynamic light scatterings (DLS) analyses, respectively. The structure of Fe3O4 nanoparticles was checked by X-ray diffraction (XRD) technique. Furthermore, the magnetic properties of the nanocatalyst were investigated by vibrating sample magnetometer (VSM) analysis. Loading content as well as leaching amounts of copper supported by the catalyst was measured by inductive coupled plasma (ICP) analysis. Also, thermal studies of the nanocatalyst was studied by thermal gravimetric analysis (TGA) instrument. X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) analysis of the catalyst revealed that the copper sites are in +2 oxidation state. The Fe3O4@SiO2/Schiff base-Cu(II) complex was found to be an effective catalyst for C–N cross-coupling reactions, which high to excellent yields were achieved for α-amino acids as well as N-hetereocyclic compounds. Easy recoverability of the catalyst by an external magnet, reusability up to eight runs without significant loss of activity, and its well stability during the reaction are among the other highlights of this catalyst.

- Catalyst-free photodecarbonylation ofortho-amino benzaldehyde
-
It is almost a consensus that decarbonylation of the aldehyde group (-CHO) needs to not only be mediated by transition metal catalysts, but also requires severe reaction conditions (high temperature and long reaction time). In this work, inspired by the “conformational-selectivity-based” design strategy, we broke this consensus and discovered a catalyst-free photodecarbonylation of the aldehyde group. It revealed that decarbonylation can be easily achieved with visible light irradiation by introducing a tertiary amine into theortho-position of the aldehyde group. A diverse array of tertiary amines is tolerated by our photodecarbonylation under mild conditions. Furthermore, the (QM) computations of the mechanism and the experiments on well-designed special substrates revealed that our photodecarbonylation depends on the conformational specificity of the aldehyde group and tertiary amine, and occurs through an unusual [1,4]-H shift and a subsequent [1,3]-H shift.

- Copper-catalyzed, ceric ammonium nitrate mediated N-arylation of amines
-
Cu-Catalyzed, ligand- and base-free cross-coupling of aryl boronic acids with primary and secondary amines has been reported. This ‘Chan-Evans-Lam' reaction has revealed that at room temperature, with a catalytic amount of copper(ii) acetate and ceric ammonium nitrate (CAN) as an oxidant, N-arylation can result in an effective C-N bond formation. This air stable, practical, robust protocol enables tolerance towards a variety of functional groups on both boronic acid and amine partners.

- Ligand complex of copper (II) supported on superparamagnetic Fe3O4?SiO2 nanoparticles: an efficient and magnetically separable catalyst for N-arylation of nitrogen-containing heterocycles with aryl halides
-
In this study, we introduce the ligand complex of copper (II) supported on superparamagnetic Fe3O4?SiO2 nanoparticles as a highly intriguing magnetic catalyst in N-arylation of nitrogen heterocycles with aryl halides. The present methodology offers several advantages such as; low catalyst loading, the use of magnetically recoverable and reusable catalyst, high to excellent yields without using any external ligands or additives, short reaction times and simplicity of operation. Also, the magnetic catalyst could be easily separated from the final product by an external magnet and reused up to seven times without any significant loss of activity. Therefore, this separation strategy with negligible leaching makes Fe3O4?SiO2/ligand/Cu(II) an economical catalyst to perform this transformation.

- Practical Catalytic Cleavage of C(sp3)?C(sp3) Bonds in Amines
-
The selective cleavage of thermodynamically stable C(sp3)?C(sp3) single bonds is rare compared to their ubiquitous formation. Herein, we describe a general methodology for such transformations using homogeneous copper-based catalysts in the presence of air. The utility of this novel methodology is demonstrated for Cα?Cβ bond scission in >70 amines with excellent functional group tolerance. This transformation establishes tertiary amines as a general synthon for amides and provides valuable possibilities for their scalable functionalization in, for example, natural products and bioactive molecules.

- Nickel-Catalyzed Reductive Cleavage of Carbon-Oxygen Bonds in Anisole Derivatives Using Diisopropylaminoborane
-
The catalytic removal of a methoxy group on an aromatic ring allows this group to be used as a traceless activating and directing group for aromatic functionalization reactions. Although several catalytic methods for the reductive cleavage of anisole derivatives have been reported, all are applicable only to π-extended aryl ethers, such as naphthyl and biphenyl ethers, while monocyclic aryl ethers cannot be reduced. Herein, we report a nickel-catalyzed reductive cleavage reaction of C-O bonds in aryl ethers using diisopropylaminoborane as the reducing agent. Unlike previously reported methods, this reducing reagent allows effective C-O bond reduction in a much wider range of aryl ether substrates, including monocyclic and heterocyclic ethers bearing various functional groups.

A facile and efficient process for the preparation of various tertiary aminobenzenes and carbazole derivatives via photoinduced cross-coupling of amines with 1,2-diiodobenzene is reported. Mechanistic investigations indicate that the transformation proceeds via nucleo-philic addition of an amine to the benzyne intermediate accompanied with a proton transfer process, followed by an oxidative cyclization of the generated diphenylamine to furnish the corresponding carbazole products.

- Dendrimer-encapsulated Cu(Π) nanoparticles immobilized on superparamagnetic Fe3O4@SiO2 nanoparticles as a novel recyclable catalyst for N-arylation of nitrogen heterocycles and green synthesis of 5-substituted 1H-tetrazoles
-
In this study, dendrimer-encapsulated Cu(Π) nanoparticles immobilized on superparamagnetic Fe3O4@SiO2 nanoparticles were prepared via a multistep-synthesis. Then, the synthesized composite was fully characterized by various techniques such as fourier transform infrared (FT-IR) spectroscopy, X-ray diffraction (XRD), dynamic light scattering (DLS), UV-vis spectroscopy, energy dispersive X-ray analysis (EDX), thermogravimetric analysis (TGA) and vibration sample magnetometer (VSM). From the information gained by. FE-SEM and TEM studies it can be inferred that the particles are mostly spherical in shape and have an average size of 50?nm. Also, the amount of Cu is determined to be 0.51?mmol/g in the catalyst by inductively coupled plasma (ICP) analyzer. This magnetic nano-compound has been successfully applied as a highly efficient, magnetically recoverable and stable catalyst for N-arylation of nitrogen heterocycles with aryl halides (I, Br) and arylboronic acids without using external ligands or additives. The catalyst was also employed in a one-pot, three-component reaction for the efficient and green synthesis of 5-substituted 1H-tetrazoles using various aldehydes, hydroxylamine hydrochloride and sodium azide in water. The magnetic catalyst can be easily separated by an external magnet bar and is recycled seven times without significant loss of its activity.

-
1,4-Dihydroxyanthraquinone-copper(ii) supported on a superparamagnetic Fe3O4@SiO2 catalyst was employed for the N-arylation of nitrogen heterocycles and alkylamines with aryl halides to afford the corresponding coupled products in good to excellent yields without using external ligands or additives as promoters. The desired triazoles were obtained from the reaction of the corresponding aryl boronic acid derivatives, alkyne, NaN3, and 0.5 mol% catalyst in water/acetonitrile as the solvent at room temperature without the additional use of an external reducing agent. These methods show notable advantages such as the heterogeneous nature of the catalyst, low catalyst loading, easy preparation, excellent yields, short reaction times and simplicity of operation. Also, the catalyst can be separated from the reaction mixture by applying a permanent magnet externally and can be reused in six consecutive reaction cycles without significant loss of activity.

- Efficient and versatile buchwald-hartwig amination of (hetero)aryl chlorides using the Pd-PEPPSI-IPr(NMe2)2 precatalyst in the presence of carbonate base
-
The precatalyst Pd-PEPPSI-IPr(NMe2)2, in which the IPr ligand was modified by attachment of two dimethylamino groups on to the 4- and 5-positions of the imidazolyl heterocycle, was found to show high catalytic efficiency in the Buchwald-Hartwig amination under mild conditions using Cs2CO3 as a weak base, using a low catalyst loading of 1 mol-%. The protocol is applicable to aryl chlorides bearing base-sensitive substituents, as exemplified by the coupling of 4-chloroacetophenone with aniline. It can also be used with an unprecedentedly wide range of amines, including strongly basic secondary alkylamines, primary arylamines, and primary alkylamines. The Palladium precatalyst Pd-PEPPSI-IPr(NMe2)2, whose supporting N-heterocyclic carbene ligand was decorated with two dimethylamino groups, was found to catalyse the Buchwald-Hartwig amination of aryl halides with a wide range of amines under mild conditions using cesium carbonate as base.

- Palladium-catalyzed amination of aryl sulfides with aliphatic amines

Conditions for the palladium-NHC-catalyzed amination of aryl sulfides with aliphatic as well as aromatic amines were established. The KHMDS-mediated amination of heteroaryl sulfides could proceed without palladium. Based on the distinct difference in reactivity of C-Br and C-S bonds, a sequential amination of bromothioanisole can take place to install two different alkylamino groups onto the aromatic ring in one pot. A palladium-NHC precatalyst shows high efficiency for C-S bond cleavage for the amination of aryl sulfides with aliphatic amines or aromatic amines.

The synthesis, spectroscopic characterization and crystal structures of the first 1,4-bis(4-nitrosophenyl)piperazine (BNPP) (4) bridged dinuclear complexes of rhodium(iii) and iridium(iii) are presented. The reaction of the μ2-halogenido-bridged dimers [(η5-C 5Me5)IrX2]2 [X = Cl (5a), Br (5b), I (5c)] and [(η5- C5Me5)RhCl 2]2 (6a) with 4 yields the dinuclear complexes [(η5-C5Me5)IrX2] 2-BNPP (7a-c) and [(η5-C5Me 5)RhCl2]2-BNPP (8a). All new compounds were characterized by their NMR, IR and mass spectra. The X-ray structure analyses of the obtained half-sandwich complexes revealed a slightly distorted pseudo-octahedral configuration ("three-legged pianostool") for the metal(iii) centers. The bridging BNPP ligand is σ-N coordinated by both nitroso groups and shows different conformations of the piperazine ring depending on the solvent used for crystallization. Moreover the crystal structures of 1,4-bis(4-nitrosophenyl)piperazine (4) and its precursor 1,4-diphenylpiperazine (3) are reported.

Indeed the reaction is first order in base and only slightly more than zeroth order in amine.

The palladium atom in the complex 2a lies on a crystallographic mirror plane and can be described as having a square-planar coordination environment with the carbene atoms of the benzimidazole rings of the ligand occupying two coordination sites in cis positions. Two further coordination sites are occupied by chloride ligands. The benzimidazole rings are connected to each other by an ortho-xylyl bridge. The catalytic activity of these palladium complexes has been tested in the coupling reactions of various N-containing substrates with bromobenzene. A preliminary catalytic study shows that the bis(NHC)-Pd complexes are highly active in the Buchwald-Hartwig amination reaction.

(Chemical Equation Presented) N,N-Dialkyl-N-chloroamines are an effective source of electrophilic nitrogen for nickel-catalyzed coupling with diarylzinc reagents. A variety of N-chloroamines as well as organozinc reagents react smoothly under the reaction conditions. A one-pot procedure that circumvents the need to isolate the N-chloroamines is described.

- Evaluation of aromatic amination catalyzed by palladium on carbon: A practical synthesis of triarylamines
-
A heterogeneous palladium on carbon (Pd/C)-catalyzed coupling between amines and aromatic halides including aromatic chlorides has been achieved using sodium tert-butoxide (NaO-t-Bu) and 1,1′-bis(diphenylphosphino)ferrocene (dppf) as a ligand in cyclopentyl methyl ether (CPME). The use of potassium tert-butoxide (KO-t-Bu) in place of NaO-t-Bu brought about the benzyne-mediated aromatic amination even without Pd/C and dppf, giving a mixture of regioisomers when 4-substituted bromobenzenes were employed as the substrate. The combination of Pd/C, dppf, NaO-t-Bu could be utilized for the syntheses of a broad range of triarylamines by replacing CPME with mesitylene which can provide a higher reaction temperature. The Pd/C could be quantitatively recovered and reused until at least the fourth cycle without any loss in catalytic activity. The quite low leaching of palladium (1.1%) was demonstrated by an inductively coupled plasma-atomic emission spectrometric analysis.

- Study on synthesis, characterization and biological activity of some new nitrogen heterocycle porphyrins
-
Seven new nitrogen heterocycle porphyrins, 5,10,15,20-tetra[4-(N-pyrrolidinyl)phenyl]porphine (TBPPH2), 5,10,15,20-tetra[4-(4′-ethylpiperazinyl)phenyl]porphine (TEPPH2), 5,10,15,20-tetra [4-(4′-butylpiperazinyl)phenyl]porphine (TUPPH2), 5,10,15,20-tetra[4-(4′-heptylpiperazinyl) phenyl]porphine (THPPH2), 5-[4-(4′-ethylpiperazinyl)phenyl]-10,15,20-triphenylporphine (MEPPH2), 5-[4-(4′-buthylpiperazinyl)phenyl]-10,15,20-triphenylporphine (MUPPH2) and piperazine bridge porphine dimer N,N′-di(5,10,15,20-tetraphenylporphinato)piperazine (DiPPH2) have been synthesized by the direct condensation of nitrogen heterocycle substituted benzaldehydes with pyrrole. Each porphine bears one or four substituted pyrrolidine or piperazine moieties that have been used as drugs. Their structures were characterized by elementary analysis, MS, 1H NMR, IR and UV-vis. These nitrogen heterocycle porphyrins aggregates in water and THF solution were studied by the spectrophotofluorimetry. The anticancer activity of these porphines for the liver cancer cells, the stomach tumor cells and the nasopharyngeal carcinoma cancer cells were tested by the MTT assay. Compared with cis-platinum (cis-Pt) and 5-Fluorouracil (5-Fu), the nitrogen heterocycle porphyrins have the better biological activity and might have potential application in medicine.

- Nickel-catalysed selective N-arylation or N,N′-diarylation of secondary diamines
-
The selective synthesis of N-aryl or N,N′-diaryl piperazines and trimethylene(bis)piperidines from the corresponding diamines and aryl chlorides using a catalyst combination of Ni(0) associated to 2,2′-bipyridine is described. The Ni/2,2′-bipyridine catalyst is also effective for the sequential arylation of piperazine. The preparation of novel and unsymmetrical 1,4-diaryl piperazines is reported.

- Nickel(0)/dihydroimidazol-2-ylidene complex catalyzed coupling of aryl chlorides and amines
-
A general and simple nickel-catalyzed coupling of aryl chlorides and amines is reported. The scope and limitations of the coupling process using Ni(0), 1,3-bis(2,6-diisopropylphenyl)dihydroimidazol-2-ylidene, and NaO-t-Bu as base were investigated. Secondary cyclic and acyclic amines and anilines provided the arylamine coupling products in good to excellent yields. Compared to palladium-catalyzed aminations, this procedure offers an alternative route to N-substituted anilines starting from readily available aryl chlorides.

- Ruthenium-catalyzed heteroannulation of anilines with alkanolammonium chlorides leading to indoles
-
Anilines react with alkanolammonium chlorides in an aqueous medium (H2O-dioxane) at 180°C in the presence of a catalytic amount of a ruthenium catalyst together with SnCl2·2H2O to afford the corresponding indoles in moderate to good yields. Especially, when triisopropanolammonium chloride is employed to react with anilines, 2-methylindoles are formed regioselectively. The presence of SnCl2·2H2O is necessary for the effective formation of indoles. A reaction pathway involving alkanol group transfer from alkanolamines to anilines, N-alkylation of anilines by anilinoalkanols and heteroannulation of 1,2-dianilinoalkanes is proposed for this catalytic process.
