Catalytic approach for the synthesis of bis-calixarenes
Three new tail-to-tail linked biscalix[6]arenes joined via ether linkages have been synthesized. These bis calix[6]arenes have been characterized by 1H NMR, 13C NMR, and mass spectroscopy and elemental analysis. Copyright Taylor & Francis Group, LLC.
Stepwise Syntheses of o,o'-Methylene Bridged Cyclohexamers with p-Cresol and 4-tert-Butyl Phenol units. Comparison with Similarly Structured Hexanuclear Chainoligomers
Two phenolic alcohols with six phenolic units in their molecules have been obtained by stepwise syntheses starting from simple phenolic derivatives. The phenolic alcohols were cyclized in a one step cyclization by boiling in a very diluted acetic acid solution.A two step cyclization of a phenolic alcohol with three phenolic units to a cyclohexamer proceeds only with poor yields. The cyclic compounds were compared with chainlike oligomers containing six phenolic units in their molecules. - Keywords: Chainlike phenol formaldehyde compounds; Cyclohexamers with phenolic units; Phenolic alcohols
Influence of base and solvent on the reaction between p-cresol and formaldehyde leading to p-methylcalix[n]arenes
Effects of solvent and base on the reaction of p-cresol with formaldehyde were studied using a liquid SIMS method. In all cases, complex mixtures of p-methylcalix[n]arenes were obtained and selectivities depended on the cation type and solvent used. Two pure products, p-methylcalix[7]arene and p-methylcalix[8]arene, were isolated.
