2-Aminonicotinaldehyde (I) reacts with substituted 2'-hydroxychalkones (II) or flavanones (III) to give the corresponding 6(H)-arylbenzopyranonaphthyridines (IV) in the presence of acetic acid containing catalytic amount of conc. sulphuric acid.Structures of all the products have been established by IR, PMR and mass spectral data.
