Stereoselective Horner-Wittig synthesis of (Z)-1-chlorovinyl sulfoxides
This paper describes the synthesis of (Z)-1-chlorovinyl sulfoxides 1 by the Horner-Wittig reaction. The required [(α-chloro)sulfinylmethyl]diphenylphosphine oxides 2 (R1=Me, c-Hex, Ph, p-Tol, p-(CF3)Ph), were prepared in high yields

Synthesis of Carboxylic Acids and their Methyl Esters from Alkyl Phenyl Sulfides
Alkl phenyl sulfides are converted with sulphuryl chloride and pyridine under controlled temperatures into 1,1-dichloroalkyl phenyl sulfides or 1-chloro-1-enyl sulfides; treatment of these intermediates with methanol-water (1percent v/v) and mercury(II) acetate-formic acid gives, respectively, methyl carboxylic ester and carboxylic acids.
