- Construction of Axially Chiral Arylborons via Atroposelective Miyaura Borylation

Compared with the well-developed centrally chiral boron chemistry, C-B axially chiral chemistry remains elusive and challenging. Herein we report the first atroposelective Miyaura borylation of bromoarenes with unsymmetrical diboron reagents for the direct catalytic synthesis of optically active atropisomeric arylborons. This reaction features broad substrate scope and produces axially chiral arylborons with high yields and good enantioselectivities.

There is an ever-increasing demand for impurity compounds for use in impurity profiling as regulatory agencies seek information during registration. Herein, we report the FeCl3-catalyzed oxidative decarboxylation of aryl- and heteroaryl acetic acids to the corresponding carbonyl compounds. A variety of useful aldehydes and ketones were prepared in a simple one-pot transformation by employing an environmentally benign, low-cost, and readily available iron salt. - Oxidative bromination of ketones using ammonium bromide and oxone

A highly efficient, environmentally safe and economic method for selective α-monobromination of aralkyl, cyclic, acyclic, 1,3-diketones and β-keto esters and α,α-dibromination of 1,3-diketones and β-keto esters without catalyst is reported using ammonium bromide as a bromine source and oxone as an oxidant. The reaction proceeds at ambient temperature and yields range from moderate to excellent. Bromination of unsymmetrical ketones takes place at the less substituted α-position predominantly. Aromatisation of tetralones is also carried out with this reagent system.

The reactivities and selectivities of phosphonium tribromides 1-4 towards ketones and their ketals, in the presence of other functional group reactive toward bromide (free enolic position, activated aromatic ring or double bond), are studied and compared with the trimethyl phenyl ammonium tribromide 5.The abilities of the two kinds of tribromides are similar, with a better selectivity of phosphonium salts toward unsaturated ketones, which is probably induced by the greater stability of the ion-pair in phosphonium salts.They act essentially by the tribromide without specific bond interactions between phosphorus and heteroatom of the substrate.

A new process for the preparation of the d-2-(6-methoxy-2-naphthyl)-propionic acid of formula STR1 which comprises resolving a racemic mixture of the d- and 1-2-(5-halo-6-methoxy-2-naphthyl)-propionic acids of formula STR2 wherein halo stands for a halogen atom, recovering the d-isomer and subjecting this isomer to catalytic dehalogenation. Compound I is obtained in very high yields and with a high purity degree.
