Identification and determination of cystathionine sulfoxide and NAc-cystathionine sulfoxide in the urine of a patient with cystathioninuria using liquid chromatography/atmospheric pressure chemical ionization mass spectrometry
Novel cystathionine metabolites, cystathionine sulfoxide and NAc-cystathionine sulfoxide, were identified in the urine of a patient with cystathioninuria using liquid chromatography/mass spectrometry with an atmospheric pressure chemical ionization interface system. NAc-cystathionine sulfoxide was discovered as a new metabolite of cystathionine in the urine of a cystathioninuric patient. The concentrations of cystathionine sulfoxide and NAc-cystathionine sulfoxide in this urine were also determined for the first time using this method, and were 28.69 ± 0.44 and 10.51 ± 0.49 mg g-1 creatinine, respectively. Neither compound was detected in the urine of healthy subjects.
S-alkylated homocysteine derivatives: New inhibitors of human betaine-homocysteine S-methyltransferase
A series of S-alkylated derivatives of homocysteine were synthesized and characterized as inhibitors of human recombinant betaine-homocysteine S-methyltransferase (BHMT). Some of these compounds inhibit BHMT with IC 50 values in the nanomolar r
