McGill Science Undergraduate Research Journal - mSURJ
  • McGill Science Undergraduate Research Journal - mSURJ
  • The McGill Science Undergraduate Research Journal (MSURJ) is a student-founded, and student-run initiative whose mission is to promote and publish undergraduate research. Now in its sixth year, the journal offers undergraduate students the unique opportunity to share their findings with a diverse research community through effective, clear writing.

MSURJ is one of the first peer-review journals devoted to undergraduate work in North America. At McGill, the journal distinguishes itself with its rigorous editorial process. Contributors are required to submit well-written articles that demonstrated scientific acumen. To ensure that this requirement is met, each incoming submission is revised by a student editorial board and faculty advisors. In addition, the peer-revision is carried out by McGill professors and graduate students with extensive experience in the specific field of research of an article. The scope of MSURJ covers the entire spectrum of scientific disciplines at McGill. Topics of past articles range from renewable energy sources to electric fish, and string theory. Article submissions are due January 2nd, 2011.

We are committed to democratic representation of the entire Faculty of Science in both the science we publish and the composition of our editorial board. The editorial board is composed of undergraduate students from various disciplines united under the mandate to conduct a formal editorial evaluation of all submissions. Our editors are involved in the solicitation of research articles, the coordination of the peer-review process and ensuring that all submissions comply with MSURJ guidelines. Editorial board applications are due October 3rd, 2010.

In addition to providing students with the opportunity to participate directly in the publication process as part of their undergraduate education, MSURJ seeks to encourage communication in science as a part of its broader mandate. Our outreach program is an effort to engage students in communicating science to the public. Through this program, we hope to raise interest and awareness about the many experiences involved in pursuing research in science.
