Aims
Field Analytical Chemistry and Technology (FACT ) is an interdisciplinary journal dedicated to the publication of research and development work concerned with the application of analytical chemistry outside the conventional, fixed-site laboratory. The journal emphasizes the special challenges and benefits of developing improved field-portable instruments and methods, as well as of applying these tools to a broad range of environmental, regulatory, health, safety, forensic, and military applications. Since specialized journals are available for process monitoring and medical diagnostics, manuscripts in these and other related fields will only be considered if they address issues of common interest.
FACT features Original Research Papers, Technical Notes (short communications of a technical nature), Outfield Reports, and Reviews. Reviews and Outfield Reports are written by invitation of the editors, who welcome suggestions for subjects. Review categories include Technology Reviews, Application Reviews, and Mini-Reviews (e.g. highlighting the work of a particular laboratory or research group). Outfield Reports describe major field analytical projects involving multidisciplinary teams, often operating under highly demanding conditions.
Scope
Among the many possible topics of this interdisciplinary new field falling within the scope of FACT are:
Design, engineering, and testing of field-portable instrumentation
Novel applications of field-portable analytical techniques
Field sampling methods and strategies
Chemical gradient mapping and distributed systems
Chemical sensor technology
On-site monitoring and mobile laboratories
Testing, validation, and quality assurance
Simulation, modeling, and data handling
