aldehydes has been developed with Eosin Y as the photocatalyst
in DMSO. Various benzylic bromides and (1-bromoethyl)benzene
(1) could perform the reaction under mild reaction conditions,
producing alcohols and aldehydes in up to 91% yields. This
method could be used in the syntheses of intermediates for
pharmaceutical and natural products. Further investigations on
the mechanism are currently underway in our lab.
