An efficient multi-component reaction for the preparation of 4-arylidene-3-methyl-1-4-[2-oxo-2H-chromen-3-yl)thiazol-2-yl]-1H-pyrazol-5(4H) -ones 5 has been described. The synthesis process involves the simultaneous formation of two heterocycles such as thiazole and pyrazolone along with the condensation of an active methylene group by aldehydes via the Knoevenagel reaction.
