Experimental Section
Typical Procedure
In an ordinary vial, sodium chloride (0.6 mmol) was added
to a stirred mixture of 2-phenylpyridine 1a (0.2 mmol),
[Cp*RhCl2]2 (0.008 mmol), PhI(OAc)2 (0.3 mmol) and
CF3CO2H (0.3 mmol) in acetone (2.0 mL) at room tempera-
ture. The reaction mixture was then stirred at 508C for 12 h.
After cooling to room temperature, the solvent was re-
moved under reduced pressure and the residue was purified
by silica gel chromatography using petroleum ether/ethyl
acetate (10:1) to afford product 3aa; yield: 85%.
