Experimental Details. In a glovebox, 2-ethylpyridine 1a (1.0 mmol) and 4-
methyl styrene 2b (0.50 mmol) were added to a benzene solution (1.0 mL)
of KHMDS (13 mg, 0.05 mmol) in a 25-mL Schlenk tube. The Schlenk tube
was sealed, taken out of the glovebox and heated at 80 °C for 60 hours.
The mixture was cooled to room temperature and purified directly by silica
gel column chromatography (hexane/ EtOAc = 100/3) to afford compound
3ab as a colorless oil (106 mg, 94%).
