using elemental sulfur as the best sulfur source will provide a
more environmentally friendly method for sulfonamide bond
formation. Further development of this strategy, especially in a
multicomponent version in which the nitro substituent and the
alkene moiety are in different molecules, is underway in our
laboratory.
