4 | CONCLUSIONS
A series of N-(4-substituted sulfamoylphenyl)-1H-benzo
[d]imidazole-2-carbohydrazonoyl-cyanide
derivatives
(6a–g) were synthesized in good yields by coupling of
diazotized 4-aminobenzenesulfonamides (4a–e) with
2-cyanomethylbenzimidazole (3) in the presence of
sodium acetate. These derivatives (6a–g) were tested
against some strains of bacteria, and the 6d derivative
showed the best antibacterial activity. In vivo, the wound
healing activity of 6d was investigated in a gel form. The
sulfonamide derivative delayed the wound contraction,
while its activity was enhanced by combination with ES
of L. cuprina maggots. The wound healing activity of sul-
fonamides needs further investigation with different con-
centrations of ES and other similar compounds to
enhance the activity of sulfonamides in topical
applications.
