The retro [3+2] cycloaddition of an oxonium ylide has been reported
previously, suggesting the microscopic reverse e.g. the [3+2]
cycloaddition of an alkoxy ketene, is possible. To date, only [2+2]
reactions have been reported. a) A. Oku, S. Ohki, T. Yoshida, K. Kimura,

To our knowledge there are two examples of structurally distinct aza-

case they were discounted as unlikely pathways in the reactions studied.
