11. Pivaloyl chloride (1 mmol) was added to dry CH2Cl2
(20 mL). To this solution was added sodium acetate or
sodium benzoate (10 mmol). The suspension was placed
into an ultrasound bath and after 5 min, a solution of the
corresponding sugar (1 mmol) in CH2Cl2 (10 mL) was
added. After the disappearance of the starting material the
mixture was washed with water (15 mL), the organic
extract was dried (MgSO4) and the solvent was evaporated
under reduced pressure. The residue was purified by
column chromatography to afford the corresponding
acylated products.
