Yields of Mannich addition products 4 were determined by
GC–MS analysis of the residue after usual workup. For the
most efficient condensations, the yields of isolated compounds
4 (after purification of the residue by column chromatography
with silica gel) were also calculated and are in parenthesis. All
these results are reported herein: benzyl: 60% (26%), para-
methoxybenzyl: 50% (21%), phenyl: 78% (54%), para-meth-
oxyphenyl: 88% (72%), allyl: 77% (15%), para-toluenesulfonyl:
65% (59%), diisopropyl: 46%, 1-phenylethyl: 20%, phen-
hydryl: 30%, hydroxy: 0%, methoxy: 0%, acetyl: 0%.
