both as a base and a ligand. Part of the driving force for the
reaction presumbly comes from the formation of a very strong

In summary, we have developed an efficient copper-,
extrogenous ligand-, and amine-free Pd-catalyzed Sonogashira
reaction of aryl fluorides with terminal alkynes in the presence
of LiHMDS. A variety of unreactive electron-rich and electron-
deficient aryl fluorides can be reacted with terminal alkynes
smoothly. In addition, the scope of this transformation can be
expanded to aryl chlorides and bromides. Therefore, this
method may serve as an alternative approach to valuable
internal alkynes from aryl fluorides.
