deaerated by flushing hydrogen from a balloon. Hydrogenation
was carried out at ~20 °C. Usually, the reaction was completed
in 1—2 h (monitoring by GLC). On longer hydrogenation, the
oxo groups in acetylꢀcontaining biaryls 8i,j were reduced to the
corresponding secꢀOH groups (Table 1, entries 40, 42).
