added and the reaction mixture refluxed for appropriate time, with the progress monitored
by TLC. Upon completion, the reaction mass was cooled and filtered and washed down
thoroughly with diethyl ether to separate the catalyst. The filtrate was concentrated under
reduced pressure to obtain the crude product which was further purified by column
chromatography over Merck silica gel (60–120 mesh) using ethyl acetate and hexane (1:4
v/v) as the eluent.
