was heated to 100 °C (oil bath temperature) and boron
trifluoride diethyl etherate 2 (1.0 equiv. based on the
polymer subunit) was added. The mixture was stirred and
heated for 60 min. The formed low-boiling compounds
were continuously distilled off and collected at low tem-
perature (-196 °C). After one hour the yield was deter-
mined and the mixture was analyzed by NMR.

The residue in the reaction flask was treated with aqueous
sodium hydroxide solution and ethyl acetate (50 mL) was
added. The aqueous layer was extracted with ethyl acetate
(2 9 50 mL). The organic layer was washed with water,
brine and dried over Na2SO4. After removal of the solvent
the residue was dissolved in hexane and filtered through a
short plug of silica. Afterwards the solvent was removed and
the liquid residue was analyzed by NMR and GC–MS.
