A kinetic study on poly(p-phenylene sulfide) formation from p-dichlorobenzene (1) and sodium sulfide reveals that the initiation reaction is first order with respect to 1 and sodium sulfide, respectively.Reaction on the surface of solid sodium sulfide has proved to be neglible when the reaction is carried out in the presence of the solid.The time course of the concentration of 1 and its dimer can be explained with a simplified eight step kinetic model for the initial stage, in which each of the step is first order with respect of the reactant in concern.Kineticparameters for each of the steps were estimated.Increase in
