addition, we conducted the Ru-catalyzed RCM reaction of the
O-allylated product of 3aq, demonstrating a feasible route to
access the structurally interesting and potentially useful phos-
phorus-containing macrocyclic molecules (7, 46% yield, 2
steps).

In conclusion, we have described the development of a
highly selective C–P coupling reaction of QMAs with SPOs to
provide a very practical method for the synthesis of a diverse
collection of ortho-phosphinylphenol derivatives in good to
excellent yields. The broad substrate scope, scalability and
simple purification procedure make it an attractive method of
choice for practical use. The obtained products are demon-
strated as versatile synthetic intermediates to access various
functionalized phosphine oxides or phosphines. Therefore,
this method may provide a new convenient avenue for further
development of these chemicals in known applications and
those unexplored. Further work on the reaction mechanism
and expanding the scope of the method is currently underway.
