Pressure composition isotherms measured in desorption [20]
show a single plateau, indicative of a one step dehydrogenation
process. Absorption isotherms on the other hand display unidenti-
fied pressure plateaus, pointing to the occurrence of intermediate
hydride phases [20]. Consequently, we cannot exclude the forma-

serves as a boron source. Three subsequent desorption and absorp-
tion cycles were recorded at the same temperature using applied
deuterium pressures of 50 bar during absorption and 1 bar during
desorption. The back pressure of 1 bar in desorption stabilizes the
LiBD and prevents the unwanted formation of LiAl. The incomplete
formation of AlB during desorption was identified as the main rea-
son for the hydrogen capacity loss and the decreasing kinetics upon
subsequent cycling. We attribute this to a phase separation of Al and
B during the decomposition of LiBD4.
