The absorption and dehydrogenation of cyclohexane on the (1 x 1 ) and (5 x 20) surfaces of Pt<100> have been investigated using EELS.On both surfaces dehydrogenation of cyclohexane to benzene occurs.The reactivity of the <5 x 20> surface, however, is three to four orders of magnitude lower than that of both the (1 x 1) surface and the topographically similar Pt<111> surface.The high reactivity of the (1 x 1) surface is surprising since so softened C-H mode is observed.
