5,10,15,20-Tetra(4-methoxyphenyl)porphyrin
might be a candidate for studying its effects on
laboratory animals, since it is a non-toxic molecule
in the dark that causes cell death upon illumination
within a short time (30 min). Photodynamic cell
death is by apoptosis and not necrosis, which could
trigger other reactions and inflammation. Further
studies are being planned to study the effects of
TMP on experimental animals.
