[K(m-1)(m-NO3)]n (5) was produced by a novel supramolecular
self-assembly process. In solution, UV spectral studies show that
1 provides strong binding of d10 metal ions at a 1 : 1 stoichiom-
etry. Fluorescence spectra exhibit enhanced fluorescence with the
addition of d10 metal ions. In addition, compared with the solu-
tion fluorescence spectra, the most drastic red-shift is observed in
the solid-state spectra, which may be assigned to intra-ligand
(p–p*) fluorescent emission.
