room temperature, the turbid mixture was poured into 35 mL
of 10% EDTA (ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid disodium salts),
extracted three times with 30 mL of CHCl3. The organic layer
was washed for three times with 30 mL of water, concentrated
in vacuo, and followed by precipitation in 500 mL of stirred
methanol. The obtained crude polymer was extracted with ac-
etone for 24 h in a Soxhlet extractor to give PF as a yellowish
solid.

We have successfully synthesized polyfluorene by using
Pd(II)-catalyzed base-free oxidative homocoupling. The facile
procedure indicated that this approach would be more valua-
ble than the currently existing routes for the synthesis of PF.
The extended investigation on the synthesis of the other con-
jugated polymers such as poly(phenylenes) and polycarba-
zoles using this route is currently underway in our group.
