The adjacent layers in PKUꢀ13a have a 0.50b + 0.68c shift as
compared with those in PKUꢀ13. The different orientations of
+
M PrN cations located in the interꢀlayer region play an
3
important role in the layer stacking in PKUꢀ13 and PKUꢀ13a.
The competition between intraꢀlayer and interꢀlayer hydrogen
bonding in PKUꢀ13 hinders the successful topotactic
condensation by direct heating. After the acetic acid treatment,
PKUꢀ13a can transform to PKUꢀ13. Both layered silicates show
potential as base catalysts in Knoevenagel condensation
reaction.
