Br, supported by a properly designed [OSSO]-type ligand.
Kinetic investigation supports the occurrence of a bimetallic
cooperative reaction mechanism during the reaction of
propylene oxide with CO2, resulting in a higher turnover
frequency in propylene carbonate formation in comparison
with the analogous mononuclear system. Upon further
reaction conditions optimization, a TOF as high as 1680 h−1
was recorded. The 2-Br/TBAB system is also effective in the
conversion of other terminal epoxides toward the
corresponding cyclic carbonate. In addition, poly(cyclohexene
carbonate) was also obtained, with high chemoselectivity, in
the presence of the 2-Cl/PPNCl system. The catalytic system
described here is the first case of a proven cooperative

coupling of carbon dioxide with epoxides. Further
optimization of the ligand structure could lead to superior
catalytic performances. In addition, we believe that these
results can support other researchers in the design of new
catalysts.
