electrocatalytic properties. Sample A showed the best electro-
activity among the samples due to its higher content of metallic
Pd. Moreover, the electrode modified by the Pd-decorated CNTs
exhibits a decrease in the overvoltage for H2O2 reduction, which
is favorable for low-potential amperometric detection.

Understanding the influence of linker molecules on catalytic
properties is very important because the linker molecule is
a critical factor among those determining the properties of CNT
supported catalysts. In this study, we studied the relationship
between the linker length and the catalytic activities of Pd-
decorated CNTs. Three samples were prepared with different
linker molecules, viz. NaSH, HSCH2CH2SH, and C2H2N2S3.
Each of these samples was investigated using TEM, powder
XRD and XPS. The TEM images and XRD patterns showed
that the Pd nanoparticles with average particle sizes of ꢀ3 nm
(sample A), ꢀ5 nm (sample B), and ꢀ6 nm (sample C) were
strongly adhered on the outside of the CNTs. The XPS spectra
revealed that the Pd species on the Pd-decorated CNTs consist of
metallic and oxidized species. The oxidized Pd becomes more
abundant with increasing linker length, which causes a decrease
of the catalytic activities in organic and electrocatalytic reactions.
Nevertheless, all of the samples exhibit higher activity in organic
and electrocatalytic reactions than that of reference systems, such
as the mixture of CNTs and Pd precursors, and the commercial
Pd/C catalyst.
