Ununtrium

Ununtrium General

Name:Ununtrium Symbol:Uut
Type:Other Metal (presumed) Atomic weight:286
Density @ 293 K:g/cm3 Atomic volume:cm3/mol
Discovered:

Ununtrium was first made by research scientists at the Joint Institute for Nuclear Research in Dubna, Russia in 2003 and by scientists at the Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory, USA. Scientists bombarded calcium nuclei with americium nuclei. Ununtrium (Uut) is a temporary element name until it is given an official name by The International Union of Pure and Applied Chemistry (IUPAC). As a result of its position in the periodic table ununtrium is expected to be classed as one of the "other metals". Too little of the element has been synthesized for this to be confirmed.

Source:

Ununtrium is a synthetic radioactive metal, created via nuclear bombardment, and has only been produced in minute amounts. Ununtrium is produced by bombarding 48Ca with 243Am in a heavy ion accelerator. The element has also been created using a cold a fusion reaction between bismuth and zinc ions.

Isotopes:

Ununtrium has 6 isotopes whose half-lives are known, with mass numbers from 278 to 286. None are stable. The most stable isotope is 286Uut, with a half-life of 19.6 seconds.
