It has [α] 16 D-107° (EtOH) and the ultraviolet spectrum in has absorption maxima at 241 (shoulder) and 275 mfJ.. The base gives a deep blue colour with FeCL3 . The structure has been determined from chemical degradation and the NMR and mass spectra.
