A Dehydrogenase (CAS NO.9035-82-9) is an enzyme that oxidizes a substrate by transferring one or more hydrides (H) to an acceptor, usually NAD+/NADP+ or a flavin coenzyme such as FAD or FMN. And dehydrogenases are belongs to the EC 1 Oxidoreductases group.
Aldehyde dehydrogenases is one kind of  dehydrogenases. Aldehyde dehydrogenases are a group of enzymes that catalyse the oxidation (dehydrogenation) of aldehydes.The active site of the aldehyde dehydrogenase enzyme is largely conserved throughout the different classes of the enzyme and, although the number of amino acids present in a subunit can change, the overall function of the site changes little.
The overall reaction catalysed by the aldehyde dehydrogenases is:
    RCHO + NAD+ + H2O → RCOOH + NADH + H+
