The synthesis of rubraflavone-A trimethyl ether (1b) involves aroylation of lithium enolate of 2-hydroxy-4-methoxyacetophenone (2) with 2,4-dimethoxybenzoyl chloride to yield β-diketone (3) which is alkylated with geranyl chloride in the presence of K2CO3 to obtain the 1,3-dioxo compound (5).Cyclisation of 5 to rubraflavone-A trimethyl ether (1b) is easily accomplished using acid catalyst.
