In a one-step reaction iodoxybenzene converts the known 1-naphthol (II) to emmotin-H (III), a naturally occurring sesquiterpenic 1,2-naphthoquinone, in 50percent yield.Depending on the reaction conditions, either III together with its acetate (IV) or only III have been isolated.
