Derivatives of manganese phthalocyanine substituted on the periphery of the macrocycle fit into a series of the following coordination forms: PcMnIIIX, L->PcMnIII-O-MnIIIPcII, PcMnIILn (X, aniono ligand; L, base; n=1,2), with stability against oxidation-reduction and protolytic transformations essentially dependent on the nature of the substituents.The PcMnIILn forms may exist as electronic isomers, Pc+*MnILn and Pc-MnIIILn, due to close packing on the energy scale of d orbitals of the manganese atom and ? orbitals of the macro ligand.
